Our Classes.
What we do:
We advocate positive training methods which use positive reinforcement, luring and clicker training. Your dog learns through these methods that good behaviors mean “good things for the dog”. Positive reinforcement rewards him with something that is of value to him for the behaviors that you want him to perform. Luring uses treats to encourage him to offer you the behavior you are looking for. Clicker training uses a reward marker to communicate to the dog the instant he does something good and has earned a reward.
What we don’t do:
We do not use force. We do not physically punish. We do not use choke chains or prong collars. We do not jerk on the leash. We do not use intimidation. We do not force the dog to submit. These methods only teach your dog to fear you.

Class Information
All Stages are available in group or private classes. Private classes can be conducted either in your home or in the studio. Maximum number of dogs in group classes is six. This will allow for more personal attention. Class duration is 8 weeks, meeting once a week for 1 hour. You will be provided with a class booklet and free clicker. Dogs will be grouped in classes according to their size and temperament.
Stage 1: Learning basic commands, manners and safety cues. All classes (puppy and adult) will learn: sit, down, recall (come), focus, loose leash walking, no jumping, sit/stay, down/stay, take it and leave it. Puppy class will also include socialization, housetraining, nipping, and chewing. You will learn object exchange exercises and food bowl exercises to help prevent possible behavior problems such as guarding. This stage is for puppies under 6 months and dogs with no previous training. Documentation of updated vaccinations is required.
Stage 2: Will strengthen the behaviors learned in Stage 1 by adding distractions, teaching your dog to focus on you in distracting situations. Improve response times. We will add the formal heel cue. Must complete Stage 1 to enroll in this class. Documentation of updated vaccinations required.
Stage 3: Will focus on improving the performance and add the distance factor. We will combine distractions and distance for more reliable behaviors. Must complete Stage 2 to enroll in this class. Documentation of updated vaccinations required.
Students are grouped so that dogs of similar sizes will be learning together. Your four month old Terrier puppy will not be in the same class as an adult Great Dane!!
Bad behavior accounts for the highest cause of death for our canine companions, not illness. People get that adorable puppy for a birthday, anniversary of Christmas and soon that puppy starts to grow up. Behaviors that were cute as a puppy are not so cute when the dog gets older. So many wonderful dogs wind up at the local shelter because of this. Their fate from here can be quite grim. Teach your friend proper behavior and manners from the beginning. The sooner you start the better. Prevent problem behaviors now.
Puppy classes are designed to teach puppies proper manners from the beginning. We’ll address, housetraining, chewing and nipping. These classes will teach the basic commands and safety cues. You’ll also learn how your dog learns so that you can better communicate to him what is expected of him.
It is never “too late to teach an old dog new tricks”. You can strengthen the bond you already have with your companion and develop a better understanding of each other through positive training.
All dogs, whether brought into your home from puppyhood or adopted, can benefit from positive training. Some dogs may have special circumstances and require private classes. An in home evaluation is highly recommended in these cases.
